Inside High Politics & the Net Zero Challenge - a talk with Peter Hill
In July 2023, Peter Hill, former CEO of COP26, joined Earth Set, hosted by Founders Keepers, for a candid discussion on geopolitics, climate policy, and the road to net zero. With his extensive experience at the highest levels of government, Peter offered a thrilling insight into the realities of international diplomacy, political negotiation, and climate action.
As Director General for Downing Street (2017–2019) and PPS to Prime Ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson, Peter advised on domestic, European, and international affairs during one of the most turbulent periods in UK politics. He previously shaped foreign and trade policy as an Adviser to the EU Trade Commissioner, leading key international negotiations.
At COP26, he spearheaded the UK’s net-zero initiatives, UN negotiations, and global climate diplomacy, gaining unparalleled expertise in the complex interplay of policy, economics, and sustainability.
Under Chatham House Rules, Peter shared hard-earned insights on the geopolitical realities of the climate and energy transition, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. His perspective reinforced how deeply political forces shape our ability to achieve net-zero—and why global cooperation remains both essential and fragile.
A thought-provoking session with Earth Set, offering an unfiltered look at what it really takes to drive climate action on the world stage.
