Earth Set Bookclub: Power Up – An Engineer’s Adventures into Sustainable Energy
For September, Earth Set Bookclub goes inside the machinery of the energy transition — with someone who has spent her career actually building and working with the systems we spend so much time talking about.
Join us for dinner with Yasmin Ali, chartered chemical engineer and author of Power Up: An Engineer’s Adventures into Sustainable Energy.
Yasmin’s career has taken her from power stations and offshore oil and gas to district heating, government, hydrogen, batteries and renewable energy. In Power Up, she draws on that experience to explore the vast physical systems that keep modern life running — and what it will really take to transform them.
How much of our energy system can we electrify? Where will we need other solutions? What are we underestimating about the engineering and infrastructure challenge? What should the clean-energy world learn from the system it is replacing? And can we build the new one quickly enough?
As ever, this will be an informal, probing and discussion-led evening around one table — closer to a long dinner conversation than a stage event.
