The Just Transition: Making It Work
The “Just Transition” is widely invoked in climate strategy, yet rarely defined. At its core lies a simple question: as economies decarbonise, who benefits, who pays, and who decides?
We’ll move beyond the slogan and explore what the Just Transition looks like in practice. How is the energy transition experienced in communities across the UK? Which policy frameworks and financial structures can ensure its benefits are widely shared? And what kinds of new business models and innovations can widen participation by design — lowering costs, broadening access and creating durable local value?
The evening will open with a short film reel from Local Storytelling Exchange, capturing lived experiences of economic transition in communities across the UK, before a panel conversation bringing together perspectives from energy policy, investment and community storytelling.
Speakers include Grace Millman (Regen), working on energy justice and community participation in the energy transition; Jordan Fletcher (Future Impact Ventures), focusing on capital, innovation and impact investment; and Dave Powell (Local Storytelling Exchange), whose work captures how economic change is experienced in communities across the UK.
This will be a moderated, high-signal evening conversation designed for founders, investors, policymakers and practitioners interested in how the transition unfolds not only technologically, but socially and economically — and what it will take to make it work in reality.
📍 Location: Octopus Energy, UK House, 2 Great Titchfield Street, London W1D 1NN
🕒 Time: 6.30–9.00pm (panel discussion 7.00–8.15pm followed by drinks & networking) -

Earth Set: Build - Series 2
This spring we’re bringing back Earth Set: Build, a short series of practical lunchtime sessions for early-stage climate founders and aspiring founders.
As well as technologies, markets and policy, building a climate company requires founders to understand credibility, structure, narrative, hiring, fundraising and leadership.
Across six sessions we’ll hear from experienced founders, investors and operators who have spent years working alongside early-stage companies. Each conversation will focus on a specific challenge founders face in the early stages of building a business: how to establish credibility before traction exists, how to structure a young company sensibly, how to hire the first few critical people, and how to navigate the uncertain stretch between idea and functioning organisation.
The format is deliberately simple. Each session is a 45-minute lunchtime discussion, combining practical insight with open Q&A.
Sessions will take place online on the following dates:
Monday 20 April, Thursday 23 April, Monday 27 April, Thursday 30 April, Monday 11 May, Thursday 14 May
All sessions run 12:30–1:15pm (UK time).
Speaker announcements will follow shortly.
Tickets and Zoom registration details will be available soon.
