Plastics Without Borders: Inside Us
Plastics are no longer just an environmental issue — they are a human health one. Micro- and nano-particles are now being found in our lungs, blood and even placentas, entering our bodies through the products we use, the food we eat and the air we breathe.
We’ll examine how this challenge is understood and addressed across science, consumer products and policy. What role can material innovation play in reducing exposure? Are current regulatory approaches fit for purpose — or lagging behind the evidence? And to what extent does responsibility sit with producers, policymakers or individuals?
Bringing together perspectives from health, industry and entrepreneurship, the conversation will focus on practical pathways to reducing plastic exposure at scale — and what a credible response looks like from here. How robust is the emerging science linking microplastics to human health? Where are the greatest sources of exposure — and how visible or controllable are they?
This Earth Set evening, hosted in partnership with Blue Earth at Mother in Shoreditch, and — for the first time — part of the SXSW London fringe, will explore what the plastic revolution means for all of us,

For our next Bookclub dinner, we’ll be joined by Jeevan Vasagar, climate editor at The Observer and author of The Surge — a gripping, deeply reported account of flooding as one of the most immediate and destructive forces of climate change. As rising seas, heavier rainfall and storm surges reshape coastlines and cities, where are the fault lines of risk — and what does it really mean to live with water?
Expect a relaxed, curated conversation over dinner in a private dining room — more salon than lecture, more ideas than networking.
