Michael Barnard in conversation with Earth Set

Few voices in climate and energy provoke as much debate as Michael Barnard.

The Canadian energy systems strategist, Chief Strategist at TFIE Strategy Inc., prolific CleanTechnica contributor and co-host of the Redefining Energy – Tech podcast has built an international reputation for questioning conventional wisdom about the energy transition. His approach combines engineering, economics and systems thinking to ask a deceptively simple question:

    What actually scales?

From hydrogen and carbon capture to AI, aviation, shipping and China's clean-tech dominance, Michael has become known for challenging assumptions with evidence, data and an uncompromising focus on deployment.

Join us for a wide-ranging live conversation exploring where the energy transition is heading, which technologies deserve our attention and investment, and where governments, businesses and investors should be placing their biggest bets over the coming decades.

    • Live interview with Amy Rennison, Co-Founder of Earth Set
    • Audience Q&A
    • Recorded live for the Earth Set Podcast
    • Drinks, networking and informal discussion afterwards

I actually like one line even better than "challenge a few assumptions along the way."

Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, you're unlikely to leave without looking at the energy transition in a different way

Comedy Night: Meek Inheritance? Climate, AI, Anxiety and the Future We Leave Behind

For one night only, Earth Set swaps panel discussions for stand-up.

Join us for a special preview performance of Meek Inheritance?, the new live show from Sharath Jeevan OBE ahead of its run at the Edinburgh Fringe later this summer.

What happens when the people building the future are no longer sure it will be better than the present?

Climate anxiety is rising. Artificial intelligence is transforming work, education, creativity and human relationships at extraordinary speed. Yet beneath the excitement lies a deeper unease: are we creating a world our children can thrive in, or one they will simply have to survive?

In this work-in-progress performance, Sharath combines comedy, storytelling and reflection to explore the hopes, fears and absurdities surrounding climate change, AI, parenting, work and the future. Drawing on his experience as a leadership adviser, educator and parent, he asks what progress really means in an age of accelerating technological change.

Part stand-up comedy, part thought experiment and part collective therapy session, this promises to be a funny, thought-provoking and highly original evening.
